Inclusion and Diversity

We view diversity as one of the key enablers that helps our business to grow; and our values, purpose and standards set the conditions for us to respect the unique contribution each person brings.

Champion diversity and inclusion

Reducing our carbon footprint and driving operational efficiencies remain key priorities for our business. This is why our targets under this pillar addresses issues such as carbon emission, waste water, deforestation, and packaging. As a drinks company, we know that water is and will always be a material resource, and therefore its careful management is a critical aspect of our environment strategy. The Guinness Nigeria water blueprint defines our strategic approach to water stewardship. This blueprint is based on four core areas where we will increase our efforts: in the sourcing of raw materials; in our own operations; in the communities which we operate; and through local and global advocacy water stewardship efforts.

Beyond industry standards

Diversity and inclusion is enshrined in our Global Human Rights Policy. Every employee and person we work with is entitled to human rights without discrimination. In all aspects of employment, we treat employees justly according to their abilities to meet the requirements of the role. We will not discriminate based on factors such as race, religion, colour, ethnicity, national origin, disability, gender, or marital status.

However, our commitment goes beyond industry standards and policies. We are proud of the progress we have made to date to achieve greater diversity at the most senior level, where women currently make up 33% of our Board and 38% of our Leadership Team. And our ambition continues with an intent to have our extended leadership team 35% female by 2020.

Additional ways we are going above beyond industry standards and policies:

  • We ensure participation and partnership with external female associations.
  • A Diversity Board, which is chaired by our MD, Baker Magunda, and other members of the Guinness Nigeria Leadership team. The board provides the overarching vision, governance and target setting for diversity and inclusion across the business.
  • 26 weeks fully paid Maternity leave for female employees and 4 weeks Paternity leave for male employees on full rate of pay.
  • A well-embedded Flexible working policy that takes into cognisance employees’ circumstances for flexible and adaptable work arrangements.
Compliance and ethics
We demonstrate the highest standards of integrity in everything we do. Our engagement with consumers, customers, employees, government officials, suppliers, shareholders and other stakeholders is driven by our values, beliefs and principles.
